Slackers Zipline Kits
If you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity for a boy or girl between the ages of 4 and 12, you can’t go wrong with a Slackers Eagle Series Zipline from Brand 44. Hands down these are the safest and easiest to install ziplines you can buy for home use and they cost a lot less than you might think (around $140 for a 90′ model). Best of all, they’re a TON of fun!
My wife and I have 3 kids (ages 9, 7 and 4) and they absolutely love their zipline. Don’t take chances trying to build a homemade zipline system yourself (chances are it would cost you more money to do so anyway). Slackers Ziplines are specifically engineered for outdoor fun and take less than 30 minutes to install with two adults.
For more information read our full review of the Slackers Eagle Series Zipline we bought for our own kids which includes a demonstration video of the zipline in action!

The Original Fairy House Book ($11):
My girls love “anything” to do with Fairies and this great book by Tracy Kane is one of the reasons why! Just turn the pages in the book and discover a world filled with whimsical habitats constructed from natural materials. The idea is to entice a fairy to stop by for a visit! From rustic dwellings to fairy mansions, this book is filled with inspiring ideas for the child to build her own fairy houses.

Princess, Fairy, and other Enchanted Wall Decals ($15+):
When we repainted our daughters’ room recently, I contemplated trying to paint the Disney Princesses on the walls. Thankfully, our friends at “Fathead” have a new line of Disney themed life-size wall murals of each child’s favorite Disney, Hello Kitty, and Nickelodeon characters! Older kids are probably more familiar with Fathead’s line of sport and action figures, but this new line of wall decorations is sure to be a hit with the younger children as well! Jelly Belly’s BeanBoozled Game
Who doesn’t love Jelly Belly jelly beans? Jelly Belly offers a ton of great holiday and birthday gift ideas for boys and girls. In addition to the regular gift packs, our kids absolutely love the Jelly Belly BeanBoozled game where you spin the wheel and take a chance on eating either a delicious flavor or something less desirable. Make sure you pick the correct bean or you could be eating a bean with the following flavor attributes: canned dogged food, skunk spray, baby whites, barf, and stinky socks. You can only imagine how much fun this game could be for 4, 5, 6, and 7 year old boys and girls!
Melissa & Doug Wooden Floor Easel
We have 3 kids of our own and it can sometimes be very hard to find something that everybody wants to play with. We bought our Melissa & Doug Floor Easel 6 years ago and it is still going strong! This stand up art easel is perfect for kids between the ages of 2 and 8. The unit has trays to store art supplies (markers, paint, chalk, etc.) and has both a dry erase board and traditional chalkboard. It is a little pricier than some of the other wooden floor easels alternatives, but you’re not going to find any that match the Melissa & Doug brand for value and durability. The Original Memory Game ($11):
The child on your shopping list is going to love this classic game from Hasbro. Not only is this game fun for children ages 3 and up, it also helps improve their concentration and memory. In addition to the original version, there are several “themed” versions of the game as well including Disney’s “Cars” and “Princess” versions.
Gift Ideas Between $15 and $25:
Disney Princess Enchanted Cupcake Party Game:
Our daughter received the Disney Princess Enchanted Cupcake Party game for her 4th birthday and she absolutely loved it! The object of the game is quite simple, players must work together to “bake” 10 cupcakes before time runs out. Each player takes a turn assembling cupcakes based on which recipe card they’ve drawn. A sand timer limits the amount of time each player can spend building cupcakes during his/her turn. The only downfall of this game is that 5 year and older children might find the game too easy, otherwise it is the perfect game for the Disney Princess fan on your Christmas shopping or birthday party list!
Live Butterfly Garden ($16):
Witness one of nature’s most spectacular transformations up close with this reusable, collapsible habitat. This amazing kit includes easy-to-use feeder and complete instructions for habitat. This kit includes a voucher for 3 to 5 butterfly larvae and food (I would wait until spring time before ordering the actual larvae). You can adopt and raise a handful of caterpillars, watch them transform into painted lady butterflies, then lift the garden cover to release your beautiful specimens into the wild. This exciting habitat makes a fabulous introduction to the miracles of nature. The larvae and food available round the year.
The Original “Daddy Doll” ($25):
The perfect gift from the parent, grandparent, or other relative that will be away from a child for an extended period of time (military deployment, business trips, merchant seaman, airline pilot, etc.). “Daddy Dolls” allow you to take pictures of yourself (or someone else) and have the image scanned into a doll for the child. I had one made for each of my children (ages 2, and 4) and they absolutely love them! You also have the option of recording a message for the child that they can listen to by pushing a button. For more information, or to order a “Daddy Doll” click here.
“Spot It” Game by Blue Orange:
Spot It by Blue Orange is a great child development game that can be played by children of all ages. My wife and I love it because the game is super easy to set up, its fun, and best of all, all three of our children (3 year old boy, and 5 and 8 year old girls) can play it with us (although our 3 year old needs a little “help”). The game encourages kids to match pictures on their own cards to the pictures on the cards from the deck as cards are flipped over one by one. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins (after the deck of cards has been flipped over). You can by Spot It at most major retail stores or online. You can also read our full Spot It Game review.
Junior Girls Golf Club Set ($85):
If you’re looking to introduce the youngster in your life to the game of golf, there’s perhaps no better quality set of junior golf clubs than the Linksman Junior Girls Golf Set (for 3-5 year olds). As an avid golfer myself, I researched the best junior golf set options available for my 3 year old (she’s now almost 5 and they still work very well for her). I bought this set through Amazon for under $80 on sale and I was blown away by the value. These clubs are better quality than the first set of real “men’s” clubs I got when I was 10 years old. There are 4 clubs included in the set along with a great quality pink junior “stand bag” (my daughter loves carrying her bag over her shoulder “just like daddy”.
Personalized L.L. Bean Rocking Chair ($109):
Parental supervision suggested for children under 3! These rocking chairs are just too cute not to include in our list of gifts for boys and girls! These adorable “first rocker” has slightly curved armrests and a comfortable, contoured seat. Solid hardwood with interlocked joints. Even better, these items are made in Maine (my home state!). You can order one of these chairs through the L.L. Bean website.
